SZA has achieved a monumental milestone with her sophomore album, SOS, spending an unprecedented 80 nonconsecutive weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. This accomplishment surpasses Adele’s previous record of 34 weeks in the top 10 with her album 25, marking a significant moment in music history.
Released in December 2022, SOS debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 318,000 equivalent album units in its first week. The album features a blend of R&B, pop, and hip-hop, with standout tracks like “Kill Bill,” “Shirt,” and “Snooze.”
The album’s longevity was further bolstered by the release of its deluxe edition, SOS Deluxe: LANA, in December 2024. This version added 14 new tracks to the original 23, reigniting interest and propelling the album back into the top tiers of the chart.
SZA’s achievement is not only a testament to her artistry but also a significant moment for Black artists, as she becomes the first Black artist to surpass Michael Jackson’s Thriller in terms of weeks spent in the Billboard 200’s top 10.
As SOS continues to captivate audiences, SZA’s record-breaking run underscores her impact on the music industry and sets a new benchmark for future artists.
