90’s Show

Paul van Dam is a Dutch radio DJ who developed a passion for offshore radio stations during their heyday, tuning into broadcasts from stations like Veronica, Caroline, Atlantis, Mi Amigo, and Radio Northsea International. This early exposure fostered a deep appreciation for diverse musical genres and a vast knowledge of music and vinyl records. kl85.net Throughout his career, van Dam has been involved with record labels and artist booking agencies, […]

Paul van Dam grew up in the time when radio (Offshore) was still being made from the sea (including Veronica, Caroline, Atlantis, Mi Amigo, Radio Northsea International, Radio London, Radio 227, Radio Atlantis and the best Swinging Radio England).

From an early age he found the radio, as it was made in Hilversum and Brussels, old-fashioned and, to his father’s displeasure, he did not listen to it. Every week the printed copy of the Top 40 was picked up from the local record store. This is partly why he built up an enormous knowledge of music and vinyl.

The pop music and other music styles from the past and present inspired Paul to delve deeper into the artists around them. This led to contacts with both record labels and artist booking agencies, where he was also active behind the scenes.

For many years Paul managed a cable newspaper (L.O.O.S Kabelkrant in Oud-Gastel), now Gemeente Halderberge. Also held a seat on various boards in the field of media and sports, including chairman of the Regional Program Council South-East Flevoland. As a PR employee of football club SC Buitenboys in Almere, he regularly acted as spokesperson via the various Flevoland media.

After his first baptism of fire as a sidekick (16 May 2004) of John Huygen at the now defunct Radio 192, he wanted more. As a member of the regional program council South-East Flevoland, he came into contact with the then SplashFM (Robin Clement-Gerard Krom) from Almere in Flevoland in 2008.

From February to October 2009, he was heard “live” via this station every Saturday with the programs “Paul in the 90’s” and “Simply Paul”. He also did a duo presentation every Wednesday evening, Live Almere Deze Week, in which regional topics were discussed. In this show he also did the interviews. Also as a stand-in in the absence of presenters, such as a Dance and Oldies program. Therefore he was able to make many radio live hours.

After it became clear that the station had no right to exist (anymore) and could only be heard as an internet station, it was decided to continue as a syndicate program. The Flemish internet stations Accent FM, (now Radio 854) and Textradio have been broadcasting the program since the start (July 2009).
The program is distributed via various internet stations. DAB+ has recently been added because Paul in the 90’s is broadcast by Hot Radio Hits.

For years (period 2011-2017) the program (291 episodes) Paul in the 90’s could be heard on the Zeeland Terneuzen FM (now Go-Radio), at his own request the program was removed from the channel.

In all this he received support from his producer, Jessy Winters, who still acts as his producer and advisor.

As of February 4, 2018, Paul was added to the presentation team of Radio Seabreeze AM 1395 and made “Simply Paul” exclusively for Seabreeze every week on Sunday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Since November 2020, “Paul in the 90’s” was also included in the Seabreeze programming on Monday evenings from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Because the program was removed from the programming without any consultation, Paul decided to leave the station on May 31, 2021.
Fortunately, after the end of the program, 3 new offers came, including Radio Monique AM 918
.
Since August 6, 2021, an exclusive program (Paul’s Music Radar) has been made for this station. This program was broadcast on Friday afternoons between 3 and 4 o’clock and later on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8 to 9 o’clock. After Monique initially decided to leave AM, he was forced to leave and was temporarily involved in the founding of Happy.radio. Due to illness (February to May 2024, everything is temporarily on Hold. More later…

“Paul in the 90’s” also on TurnON Radio International, Radio 854 and since summer 2020 also on Hot Radio Hits. Now also on KL85.
